Info

“La Traviata” is a wonderfully narrated story of love and death. Robert Herzl directs this opera with much sensitiveness and sensational colourfulness. The beautiful, spirited and easy-going courtesan Violetta is the focal point of Verdi’s “La Traviata”. Director Robert Herzl is looking forward to the challenge of directing this popular opera in St. Margarethen. “We will develop a production which not only takes into account the splendidness of the stage but also the intimacy of the story line. I am sure that we will succeed”. Romantic and tragic together! The plot of the opera according to the novel “The Lady of the Camellias” is quickly told. At a party in the home of courtesan Violetta, Alfredo Germont, who is deeply in love with her, is introduced. Alfredo admits his love for the tuberculosis-stricken Violetta. Although she is extremely moved from his statement, for the moment she keeps her distance from him. She is well too impregnated from her life of moral conduct. Nevertheless, the two of them move to the country and Violetta would like to start a new life with Alfredo. However, her beloved comes from a good house and his father convinces her that the relationship is compromising to the family and ostracised by the community. Violetta gives into the wishes of the father and pretends not to love Alfredo any longer and returns to her old life. As the desperate Alfredo searches for his beloved, he finds her with a rival which leads to a duel from which Alfredo is the winner. Meanwhile, Violetta is impoverished and severely ill. On her death bed, the two lovers come together and Alfredo’s father asks for forgiveness before she dies. Look forward to an unforgettable evening under a clear sky!
