After the huge success of the arena show “Delirium” at the end of October 2007 at the Stadthalle in Vienna, Cirque du Soleil will once again take residence for a few weeks in the well-known white grand chapiteau on the Rotundenplatz in Vienna at the end of September 2008. The colourful and imaginative show Varekai, which celebrated its European première at the end of October 2007 in Antwerp with standing ovations, will also enthuse an Austrian audience starting in the fall 2008. Varekai is more colourful than an other Cirque du Soleil show that has been here. Varekai is a show that the audience has come to know from Cirque du Soleil, love and respect: an imaginative story, colourful costumes, lounge music, breath-taking artistry and the special atmosphere of the world of Cirque du Soleil. The show, directed by Dominic Champagne, casts a spell on the audience with completely new artistic acts in more than 600 extravagant costumes designed by the internationally well-known designer Eiko Ishioka, who received a nomination for the Drama Desk Award for their creation. Varekai – “Wherever” The word varekai means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers. Varekai is a colourful breath-taking show, which tells the audience the story about Ikarus. Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, exists an extraordinary world—a world where something else is possible. A world called Varekai. From the sky falls a solitary young man, and the story of Varekai begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures, this young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary.
