Every few years, there is this one band that makes time stand still for a moment. A band both beautiful and enchanting, seductive and unique. A band that makes you forget about whatever it is you have been doing, hold your breath, and just listen. Fleet Foxes are one of these bands.
Drawing on a multitude of influences – gospels, hymns, folk, Motown, baroque pop, Fleet Foxes and their producer Phil Ek (The Shins and Band Of Horses et al.) have certainly created some of this year’s most extraordinary music.
The five young men from Seattle remember having grown up surrounded by their parents’ record collections. That is to say, their spent their childhood with Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby Stills & Nash, the Zombies and the Beach Boys. Those names also constitute the influences Fleet Foxes do not want to deny, but neither do they want to be reduced to them. Their music reflects what is most important to its creators: "The music we make is a reflection of our instincts. To me, the most enjoyable thing in the world is to sing harmony with people, so we do that a bunch," says leadsinger Robin Pecknold.
