Vienna’s Albertina starts autumn with a giant Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) exhibition. Over the last three years, the curators have gone through fifty collections around the world in order to compile 150 works by the Dutch pioneer of modernism. The paintings come from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Tate Gallery, the Pushkin Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and many more.
66 masterpieces are provided by the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Austria has never seen a van Gogh exhibition of this scale. A two billion euros insurance value makes it the most expensive exhibition that has ever taken place in Austria.
