The Club exists since the 80ies, more than 25 years now. It developed from a local initiative to get kind of a “rock house” for the 11th district in Vienna (“Simmering”). It was taken over by the city-government than and established as the famous live-club “((szene)) Wien”. Since 2008 it’s run by Planet Music.
The variety of the genres was very wide since ever, although focussed on different genres of popular music at different phases, depending on the preferences of people in charge at times: Alternative/Indie, Rock/Blues, Folk/Songwriter, Gothic/Metal, Avantgarde/Experimental, World/Ethno, Cabarett/Theatre, Pop and always a quite fair amount of local artists. The Club is famous for it’s excellent sound-quality and a countless number of legendary artists enjoyed the stage like Dresden Dolls, Wovenhand, Shellac, Sepultura, Tinariwen, Beasts Of Bourbon, Tito &, Tarantula, Einstürzende Neubauten, DAF, Helmet, Lydia Lunch, Tiger Lillies, Final Fantasy, Atari Teenage Riot, Chris Isaak, New Model Army, Uriah Heep, Calexico and many more.
The “((szene))” is not in the center of Vienna but very easy accessible with public transport via Underground, Bus, Tram and S-Bahn.
Besides the concert-hall there is a small café where people can get all sorts of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks and a selection of snacks. Not to forget the cosy garden pleasing the people especially in summer.
