Founded in 2015 HEAVYCHEST is a sonic project by Aotearoa’s own Andre
Smith.
HEAVYCHEST is a voyage of sounds venturing into new territory with every
release. The project’s self-produced styling allows any listener to step between
auditory dimensions. To bop to Indie bedroom pop, soften to stripped-back
singer-songwriter ballads, and, in the case of the newly released E.P. ‘Lake
Echo’ embrace the formerly forgone feeling of authentic folk.
Seven short years have seen an explorative discography's swift and true
maturation. Yet, since inception, each instalment has shown a willingness to
adapt and change direction keeping each release fresh and different from the
last.
In 2022, HEAVYCHEST collaborated with international artist BENEE on the
single ‘SUNDAY926’. Produced by Andre this ethereal pop ballad showcases
the depth of writing now synonymous with the project. This first international
feature, along with a second through Kip Nelson (USA) and three classic
releases through the French Label NiceGuysRecords, means HEAVYCHEST
soundwaves have long since left South Pacific shores.
After a writing/surfing retreat in Tasmania and solo tour of New Zealand. Andre
is now bringing the HEAVYCHEST project up to the northern hemisphere!
Heading out to a month long music residency in the French Alps February
2025.
He will be looking to expand on previous recordings, write new music & get in
front of new audiences. This exciting opportunity will be a launching pad for the
project, expanding into Europe and beyond!
