The Akademietheater is the smallest venue of Vienna's Imperial Court Theater (Burgtheater). Located in Lisztstraße 1, it was built by the architects Ludwig Baumann, Fellner and Helmer as a training stage for the University of Music and Performing Arts. The theater and the university were built by the Viennese Konzerthausgesellschaft (Konzerthaus society) and given to the state after they were finished. The theater opened its doors with a performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball) on February 4, 1914. It has been used as an intimate theater stage by the Burgtheaer (Imperial Court Theater) since 1922.
The Akademietheater has 536 seats. It was remodeled and equipped with modern technics in 1974 and 1999. It hosts mainly contemporary plays.

Parking: at Beethovenplatz underground car park (discount!) and in the short-term parking zone. Akademietheater visitors are eligible for a 5€ theater parking flat rate at WIPARK car park at Beethovenplatz for 5 hours. Pick up the required theater flat rate card at the box office.
