Vienna's Raimund Theater is named after the Austrian dramatist Ferdinand Raimund. It was founded by an association of Viennese citizens and opened its doors in 1893. The first play to be performed was Raimund's magic play "Die gefesselte Phantasie" ("Fantasy in chains").
The theater was renovated in 1984 and 1985. Together with the Theater an der Wien and the Ronacher, the Raimund Theater has been part of the United Stages Vienna since 1987. Since that time, it has mainly hosted operettas and musicals.
The Raimund Theater has 1185 seats and standing room for 40. Every year, lots of well-known German-language musicals are shown, for example We will Rock you, Dance of the Vampires, The Beauty and the Beast and many more.
