Die US-amerikanische Alternative-Country-Band wurde Anfang der 1980er-Jahre rund um Mastermind Howe Gelb gegründet. In ständig wechselnder Bandbesetzung waren u.a. die späteren Bandmitglieder von Calexico am Schlagzeug und Bass bei "Giant Sand" aktiv. Gastkünstler waren unter anderem PJ Harvey und John Parish.
