Die HSG Holding Graz wurde 1997 gegründet, um den Handballsport in der steirischen Landeshauptstadt nach dem Niedergang des HC Waagner Biro neu zu beleben. 2002 gelang erstmals der Aufstieg in die höchste österreichische Liga, ehe der Verein 2003 wieder abstieg. Nach dem Vizemeistertitel in der zweithöchsten Spielklasse 2016 folgte 2017 mit dem Meistertitel der erneute Aufstieg in die HLA sowie der Einzug ins ÖHB-Cup-Finale. Seit 2018 trägt die HSG ihre Heimspiele im Raiffeisen Sportpark mit 3 000 Plätzen aus. Unter Trainer Aleš Pajovič, der später österreichischer Teamchef und Trainer der SG Flensburg-Handewitt wurde, feierte Graz 2018/19 die bis dato erfolgreichste Saison der Vereinsgeschichte. Unter dem Motto #diehüttebrennt sorgen zahlreiche Fans Woche für Woche für eine einzigartige Atmosphäre bei Heimspielen des HLA Meisterligateams.
