The Weeknd ist ein kanadischer R&B- und Hip-Hop-Singer und Songwriter. Bekannt wurde er durch seine Zusammenarbeit mit dem ebenfalls aus Toronto stammenden Rapper Drake und seine Veröffentlichungen auf YouTube. Sein Debütalbum "Kiss Land" erschien 2013. Es feierte große Verkaufserfolge und wurde von Musikkritikerin positiv bewertet. Es folgten die Alben "Beauty Behind the Madness" (2015), "Starboy" (2016). Bei den Grammys 2016 erhielt The Weeknd zwei Awards in den Kategorien "Best R&B Performance" und "Best Urban Contemporary Album". Im Jahr 2017 stand The Weeknd zweimal im Guinness-Buch der Rekorde: für das meistgestreamte Album ("Beauty Behind The Madness", 2015) und 45 Wochen in den US-Singlecharts Top 10. Auch mit seinem 2020 erschienenen Album "After Hours" (2020) konnte The Weeknd an den Erfolg seiner bisherigen Arbeiten anknüfen.
